Darlous Deitz Buchanan, 75, of the Savannah community in Sylva, N.C., passed peacefully away on Dec. 9, 2020.
Darlous was a devoted wife of 49 years to Early L. Buchanan and the beloved daughter of Jesse and Ollie Deitz, all of whom preceded Darlous in death.
Darlous is survived by one daughter, Donna (Daren) Carley; and special nephew, Mike (Billie) Deitz, who Darlous raised as her own. Also surviving is one brother, Johnny Crawford (Reba) Deitz; and very special aunt, Ms. Margie Buchanan. Darlous also has several nieces, nephews, cousins, and brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law who she loved dearly. Darlous also leaves behind her devoted canine companion, Jessie; as well as her granddog, Emma.
An avid reader, Darlous enjoyed books of many different genres. She loved gardening and canning and working in her flowers when she was able. She embraced the Appalachian traditions of her time and was an inspiration to many. She loved her family and spending time with them most of all. Darlous was a member of Deitz Memorial Baptist Church, and she enjoyed a spiritual and close relationship with God. The compassion and love that lived in her heart for all God’s creatures will shine forever.
A graveside memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 27, 2020, at 2 p.m. at Old Savannah Baptist Church Cemetery, with Rev. Robert Blanton officiating.
