Ann Thomas Whitney, age 69, passed away peacefully at her second home in Port Saint Lucie, Fla., on Aug. 29, 2021.
Ann was a dedicated wife, mother and friend. Above the kitchen sink where she loved to cook, Ann kept a plaque that reads “A Garden of Friends,” and that embodied her in many ways. She was a gardener in all aspects of her life, nurturing lifelong friendships and her family.
When she was not caring for her family, she enjoyed spending time outdoors in her greenhouse with her plants and orchids. Also, a lifelong seamstress and crafter, she loved to make clothes for herself, her daughters, and later her granddaughters.
A birthday would not go by without a handmade card from Ann. She used her scrap booking and organization skills as historian and president of the Caney Fork CDC and started the weekly card playing club to meet new friends and share laughter.
Ann is survived by her husband of 49 years, Curtis Clark Whitney; and her children, Curtis Scott Whitney of Marietta, Ga., Elizabeth Whitney Sayman and Robert Sayman of Cary N.C., and Allison Dawn Whitney and Melanie Neena Whitney of Port St Lucie, Fla.; as well as her grandchildren, Kyle Sayman, Jordan Sayman and Emma Sayman.
All whom loved her dearly and will never forget her tenacity, laughter, charm and undying caring love. She will be deeply missed.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John T. Thomas and Frances J. Thomas.
Ann’s ashes will be buried at Balsam Grove Cemetery on Caney Fork. No public service is planned.
