Joy Phillips Hoyle, 74, of Sylva went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Aug. 25, 2019.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, Joy was the daughter of the late Ransom and Leah Phillips. Joy was a member of Central Haywood Church of Christ. She wrote and published two books – “Beneath the Balsams” and “Handed Down Then Passed Around.” She loved getting to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, she was also preceded in death by her three brothers, Weldon, Kay and Warren Phillips.

She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Bill Hoyle; her children, Kenny Hoyle (Theresa) of Ohio and Tammy Millsaps (Roger) of Bryson City; four grandchildren, Daniel Parris, Becca Winchester, Wade and Leah Hoyle; two great-grandchildren, Kyleigh and Coy Winchester; one sister, June Cabe of Sylva; and a special little friend, Jasper.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday Aug. 28, 2019, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services with Minister Jeff Arnette officiating.

The family received friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.

Burial was in Blanton-Hoyle Cemetery.
