Jacqualyn “Jackie” Wood Brown, age 82, of Cope Creek Road, Sylva, passed peacefully from this life on Thursday, Jan. 7, 2021.
She was born March 31, 1938, to the late Dell H. and Cora Lowe Wood. A lifelong resident of Jackson County, Jackie was a member of the Balsam Grove Freewill Baptist Church, where she grew up in the Caney Fork community.
She is lovingly remembered for “having raised half of Jackson County,” during the more than 30 years that she operated her daycare. Jackie’s strength and spirit inspired countless others that she generously cared for across generations.
Preceding her in death were husband, Clarence Ray Brown; brother, Bill Wood; and sister, Hilda Fisher.
Jackie is survived by daughter, Sharon (Michael) Montague, and son Michael (Pam) Brown, all of Sylva. She spoke proudly of her grandchildren Brody (Morgan) Montague, Cassie (Andre) Pugliese-Carter, and Michael, Michelle and Terry Brown. Two sisters, Joyce (Carl) Adams and Priscilla “Sally” (Gene) Brown survive, along with brother, Cooter Woods. Her beloved nieces, nephews, great-nieces, great-nephews and their spouses also survive.
The family honored Jackie’s life with a graveside service at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2021, at the Old Field Cemetery, Cope Creek Road, Sylva, N.C. The Revs. Avery Brown and Carl Adams presided.
