Carol Henson Givens, 80, of Balsam, N.C., passed away Saturday, Aug. 22, 2020, in a Jackson County hospital.
She was born in Oregon, but had lived in Murphy’s Bellview Community as a teenager. Carol moved to Balsam with her husband in 1960. She worked as a seamstress and had done alterations and other work for nearly everyone in the community.
Carol was the daughter of the late J.E. and Florence Sexton Henson. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two sisters, Linda Williams and Catherine Stewart.
Carol is survived by her husband of 62 years, James Givens; a daughter, Lynne Sheehan and husband Don of Balsam; a sister, Jane Henson of Murphy; three brothers, Kenny Henson and wife Wendy of Murphy, Danny Henson and wife Amanda of Blairsville, Ga., and James Henson and wife Pam of Florida. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Graveside services were held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 26, 2020, at Bellview Community Cemetery with Dr. Chester Jones officiating. Pallbearers were T.J. Dockery, Matt Burrell, Kenny Henson Jr., and members of the Balsam-Willets-Ochre Hill Volunteer Fire Department.
The family requested that those who attended wear masks.
The family gathered privately prior to the graveside services.
Ivie Funeral Home, Murphy, was in charge of all arrangements.
