William Ricky “Rick” Harris, 65, of Sutton Branch, Sylva, went home to be with his Lord on Friday, July 26, 2019, following a period of declining health.
Rick was a life-long resident of Jackson County, son of the late Hubert and Nina Bumgarner Harris and a 1972 graduate of Sylva-Webster High School. Rick loved trucks, the outdoors, talking with his family and friends. Rick never met a stranger and always had a story to tell.
Rick’s survivors are his wife, Marian Brooks Harris; two sons, Ben (Tonya) and Brandon (Cindy); four granddaughters who dearly loved their “Poppy,” Kayla, Karly, Paxton Harris (Carson Waggoner), Brittany (Derrick Nicholson); one great-grandson, Bryson Nicholson; one brother Max (Frankie). Also, many friends who were like family to him are left to treasure their memories of Rick.
The family received friends on Sunday, July 28, from 4-7 p.m. at Western Carolina Funeral Home.
A memorial service was held on Monday, July 29, at 11 a.m. in the chapel of Western Carolina Funeral Home with Revs. Michael Queen and Eddie Stillwell officiating.
Burial was in the Old Savannah Church Cemetery.
Pallbearers were Earl Mathis, Richard Tatham, Jimmy Claybo, Ernest Petty, Kevin Shook and Chris Broom.
