Jim Rickman


James Lee “Jim” Rickman, 86, of Whittier, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday evening June 7, 2022.

A native of Jackson County, he was the son of the late Paul and Sarah Dills Rickman.

Jim retired after 21 years of service as Chief Petty Officer in the U.S. Navy. He was a member of Shoal Creek Baptist Church and was an ordained deacon. He was an avid fisherman who loved flowers, gardening, his family and his church. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, and will be missed by all that knew him.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jerry Rickman; brothers, Jack, Bill and Tom Rickman; sister, Geneva Giles; granddaughter, Jenelle Stancin; and granddaughter, Jenine Rickman.

He is survived by his wife of 45 years, Helen Rickman; daughter, Kim Hamilton (Jesse) of Salt Lake City, Utah; son, Norman Rickman of Edneyville, N.C.; daughter, Brigid Stancin (Russell) of San Pedro, Calif.; sisters; Carolyn Lewis (Johnny) of Sylva, Jean Worley (Steve) of Sylva; grandsons, Josh (Caroline) Rickman, Jeremiah Rickman, Daniel (Bethany) Fountain, James (Carmen) Fountain, and Joseph (Olivia) Fountain; granddaughter, Shantelle Stancin; and nine great-grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Friday, June 17, 2022, at Shoal Creek Baptist Church, with the pastor, Mickey Duvall, officiating.

The family will receive friends from noon until 12:45 p.m. prior to the service, in the Fellowship Hall of the church.
