Vernon Venoy “Buddy” Pannell Jr., 76, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, May13, 2019.
(For Dad by Ricky and Tim) Death takes the body. God takes the soul. Our minds hold the memories. Our hearts keeps the love. Our faith lets us know we will meet again. We love you Dad, you were always good to us, we really miss you.
Buddy was a retired carpenter, over the road truck driver and heavy equipment operator. He loved to play bingo, casino, go to horse sales and make a garden. He never met a stranger. He was a good, kind and generous man, willing to give a helping hand to everyone he met that needed his help. Buddy was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather.
Buddy was proceeded in death by his father, Vernon Pannell, and mother, Jessie Johnson Pannell; brothers, Furman, Kenneth Pannell; and sisters, Jackie (Huey) Buchanan, Paulene (Robert) Brooks and Mary Pannell; daughter, Rhonda Kim Pannell; great-granddaughter, Kaydince Greenman; and several cousins, nephews and nieces.
Buddy is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Catherine Tallent Pannell; sons, Ricky (Anita), Timothy (Mandie); daughters, Sherry (Donnie) Hoxit, Tammy (Don) Keaton; grandson, Phillip Pannell, whom he raised as a son; seven grandchildren; five stepgrandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and 12 stepgreat-grandchildren.
Funeral service will be held at Scotts Creek Baptist Church in Sylva, N.C., on Monday, May 20, 2019, at 2 p.m. Revs. Lloyd Fish, Jeff and Tonya Vickery, J.D. Grant, Eddie Stillwell and Adrian Davis will officiate.
Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.
Burial will follow at Cullowhee Baptist Church Cemetery in Cullowhee, N.C. Pallbearers will be Phillip Pannell, Earl Buchanan, Jess Rose, Brent Teesateskie, Corey Rogers and A.J. Owle.
