Claude H. Tallent, age 99, a man of faith and family, passed away peacefully Friday, Jan. 31, 2020.
Claude’s greatest love was his family, and they will forever hold him in their hearts. He was loved by all who knew him and will be dearly missed.
Claude was an Army World War II veteran. He retired from The Town of Sylva after 38 years. He was the son of the late Grady and Lydia Young Tallent.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 58 years, Nancy Wilson Tallent; three brothers; two sisters; a daughter, Linda Mull; three grandchildren, Rhonda Bradley, Michelle Fox, Sharon Fox.
Claude is survived by one son and three daughters, Kenneth Tallent, Catherine Pannell, Sandra Ridley and Kay Franks (Radford); 16 grandchildren, Wayne Tallent (Tanya), Bobby Burnley, Randy Tallent, Ricky Pannell (Anita), Sherry Hoxit (Donnie), Tammy Keaton (Don), Tim Pannell (Mandy), Melanie Sather (Randy), Jamie Mull (Suzanne), Karen Baggett, Amy Fox, Lisa Wykle, Kim Strum, Gina Franks, Jessica Franks and Chad Franks; 27 great-grandchildren; 14 great-great-grandchildren.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 2, 2020, in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services, with Revs. Larry Bryson and Eddie Stillwell officiating.
The family received friends from 2 until 3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens.
