Charles F. Zackman IV, lovingly known as Zack or Rick, 63, passed away at home on Wednesday, Feb. 12, 2020, after a courageous battle with lung cancer.
Charles was born in Wichita, Kan., on March 15, 1956, to the late Charles F. Zackman III and Shirley Jones Zackman.
He proudly served and retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1993 and worked in the casino business for 25 years. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brother-in-law, Anthony Cagno; and nephew Stephen “Stevie” Cagno.
He is survived by his wife, Debra O’Neil Zackman; daughter, Shirley (Christopher) Lehner, Sherrill, N.Y.; son Charles V (Remie) “Chaz;” grandson he adored, Charles VI “Chase,” Sylva, N.C.; brothers, Kevin (Terri) Zackman, Bordentown, N.J., Cary Zackman (Dr. Christopher Radel) Interlaken, N.J.; sisters, Lisa Ditillo, Stillwater, N.J.; Lori Cagno, Stillwater, N.J.; brothers-in-law, John (Julie) O’Neil, Donald (Mary) O’Neil; sister-in-law, Barbara (Edward) Lepere; several nieces and nephews; his furry friend, Wubbs; and best friends, Andrew Merrick and Thomas Owl.
Zack traveled all over the United States and other countries, but when he moved to Sylva, N.C., he knew he was home. He loved Western North Carolina.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, Feb, 21, at St. Mary’s Mother of God Church in Sylva, N.C., with Father Casey Coleman officiating.
