Harold Carl “Red” Trantham, age 67, of Sylva, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, Dec. 26, 2021.

He was born in Jackson County on Nov. 7, 1954 to the late Phillip and Mary Bell Wikle Trantham. Also preceding him in death are his wife, Rosie Mathis Trantham; brothers, Odell, Tom, Paul and Wayne Trantham; sister, Fannie Mae Thompson; and four infant brothers.

Carl was self employed as the owner of Sheep Laurel Association. He loved to fish and loved his church. He was a member of the Cashiers Volunteer Fire Department.

Surviving are two daughters, Kristie (Craig) Burrell, Tina (Scotty) Petit; sisters, Elizabeth Bennett, Frankie Nell Johnson; brother, Ray Trantham (Debbie); grandchildren, Trevor (Kim), Cheyenne, Jayden (Kayla), Shawna (Corey); great-grandchildren, Brently, Liam, Kinsleigh, Katum; sisters-in-law, Ida Trantham, Beverly Morgan, Carolyn Trantham, Arlene Trantham; and several nieces and nephews.

The family received friends from 5 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening, Dec. 29, 2021 at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, N.C.

A funeral service will be held at noon Thursday, Dec. 30, 2021 in the chapel of Appalachian Funeral Services, with Revs. Dennis Burrell, Caleb Kelly and Roger Luker, officiating.

Interment will follow at Mathis Cemetery, Tuckasegee, N.C.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to help with funeral expenses.
