Psalm 116: Precious in the sight of the Lord is the death of his saints.

Marietta “Mary” Millsaps Buchanan-Robinson, age 91, was called on May 27, 2019, to go to her heavenly home while at Skyland Nursing Center here in Sylva, N.C., where she had been a patient since Sept. 14, 2016.

Mary was born on June 2, 1927, to the late Rev. J.C. Millsaps and Elizabeth Wilcox Millsaps. Mary was a hard-working, retired nurse with 30 plus years of nursing duty employment, and after retiring Mary did a lot of private duty work and care giving. She dearly loved and enjoyed helping people and was kind, loving and had a very understanding heart. She was always ready to go that extra mile with patients, friends or family and always showing the love of Christ in her heart.

Mary was saved at a young age and was deep rooted in her love and her faith in Christ. She so enjoyed and was very devoted to her daily reading and studying her Bible. Mary, like some of her sisters, had a God-given talent of writing out poems and also writing songs. She had a few published years ago.

She enjoyed gardening, canning, sewing quilts, traveling and other activities and loved her family and friends dearly.

She was very faithful to her church. She was a long-time member of Tuckasegee Baptist Church (her home church). She went to and was a long-time member of Speedwell Baptist Church and was a member at Webster Baptist Church for several years before declining health.

Mary was preceded in death by her second husband, Guy Robinson, with 21 years of marriage, and her only son, Charles Edwin Buchanan, in 2014. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Raye Hall, Pearle Woods, Violet Graves, Ruby Middleton and Velma Stephens; and one brother, Vance Millsaps.

She is survived by her only daughter, Beatrice T. “Bea” Buchanan of Sylva, who was very devoted to her and was her best friend who she lived with and was taken care of for 16 years. She is also survived by her son’s son, Randy Lee Buchanan of Orlando, Fla., who she loved so very much.

Western Carolina Funeral Home in Sylva was in charge of the arrangements.

An in-memory-of service will be held at a little later date.
