Ruth Margaret Davis Knowles, age 82, of Sylva, N.C., went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 9, 2023.
She was born on March 8, 1941, in Miami, Fla., to the late Bruce Vern and Evelyn Gosch Davis.
Ruth loved her role as a preacher’s wife. She enjoyed helping Rev. Ray with organizing sermons, songs and teaching Sunday School. They lived a life of kids, grandkids, chickens and goats. She adored them all. Ruth retired from Kelly’s Home Health Services.
She will be dearly missed by her children, Kitty Knowles of Sylva, Robert (Aaron Thomas) Knowles of Atlanta, Jeanne (Rev. Scott) Mathews of Sylva; grandchildren, Kayla Bryson, Emily Bryson, Kevin (Cassie) Bryson, Crystal Mathews, Ricky Mathews; great-grandchildren, Emmy Lou and Torvi; brother-in-law, Charlie Stoess; and her faithful poodle, Bella.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her loving husband, Rev. Raymond E. Knowles Jr.; and sister, Eleanor Stoess.
The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. Saturday, May 13, 2023, at Appalachian Funeral Services, Sylva, N.C.
A memorial service followed at 3 p.m. with Rev. Scott Mathews officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Ruth’s memory to No Wrong Door/Veterans Purpose, P.O. Box 1594, Franklin, NC 28744.
