Sam Cary Anderson, Jr., age 85, passed away on Saturday, Nov. 7, 2020, at Autumn Care of Waynesville.
A native of Georgia, he was a son of the late Sam and Blanche Keanum Anderson. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Frances Nations Anderson, who died in 2019; a sister; and five brothers.
Sam proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corp, retiring as staff sergeant after 20 years of service. He worked as a shop foreman for RMC-Allied Concrete Company from which he retired. Sam was a Mason and member of the Grand Lodge of Georgia and loved fishing and gospel singing. He was a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Dillsboro.
Sam is survived by a brother-in-law, Eugene Nations of Canton, Ga.; nephew, Gary Nations of Cartersville, Ga.; and a close friend, Brenda Jones (Henry) of Whittier, N.C.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, Nov. 11, 2020, in the Waynesville chapel of Wells Funeral Home with Rev. Dale Wheeler officiating.
The family received friends from 1 until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Burial was held at Nations Creek Cemetery.
