Robert Marshall Jones, 75, of the Nations Creek Community passed away unexpectedly at home Tuesday morning, Jan. 26, 2021.
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., and later moving to Nations Creek, he was the son of the late Robert Jones and Hester Levone Messer. A member of Wilmot Baptist Church, Marshall had worked for Earley’s Construction Company and had 20-plus years working for Nathan and Ginger Robinson, who owned the El Camino Motel in Cherokee, N.C.
He enjoyed going to the car races, working on cars, carpentry and all kinds of odd jobs. There was never a task or job he couldn’t figure out. He would always try to help others with anything he could.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Ronnie Jones.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Elaine Jones; daughter, Lisa (David) Cope; two wonderful grandchildren, Dustin (Becky) Cope, Peyton Cope; one adorable great-grandchild, Carson Cope; three brothers, Casey (Jenette) Jones, Michael Jones, Buddy Willard (Mildred) Jones; three sisters, Janie (Charlie) Franklin of Hayesville, Doreen (Wayne) Mayes of Fayetteville, N.C., Roylee (Wayne) Knight of Sevierville, Tenn.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 31, 2021, at Wilmot Baptist Church, with the Revs. Johnny Ray Davis, Lanny Nations and Austin Frady officiating.
The family received friends from noon until 2 p.m. prior to the service at the church.
Burial followed in Wilmot Cemetery.
