Wayne KiersteadWayne Joseph Kierstead, 64, of Springs Camp Ground, died Sunday, Dec. 17, at Harris Regional Hospital.A native of Hartford, Conn., he was a veteran of the U.S. Navy and a retired painter. He was a son of the late Walter Arthur and Alice Nordfors Kierstead. Surviving are one daughter, Marjorie Bernstein of Tampa, Fla.; one brother, Ernest Kierstead of Clyde; and three grandchildren. She was preceded in death by one grandson; four sisters, Eunice Lovin, Ola Mashburn, Jessie Turpin and Catherine Hoyle; and two brothers, Glen and Bobby Gunter. Garwood, 64, of Wilkes Crescent Street, Sylva, died Saturday, Dec. 23, at Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.Funeral services were held at noon Tuesday, Dec. 26, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home. The Rev. Clemmey Queen officiated. Burial was at Parris Cemetery. A native of Haywood County, he had lived in Jackson County since 1973. He retired from Orkin Exterminating Co. and was formerly with Nabisco. He was a son of the late Shirley and Jane Bingham Garwood. He was preceded in death by one sister, Betty Powell; and two brothers, Clarence and Terry Wayne Garwood. He was the husband of Inez Elders Settlemyre, who died in 1999. He was also preceded in death by a son, Dale Settlemyre, and a grandson.
