Ann Ring

Ann Corcoran Ring, 75, of Henry Road, Sylva, died Friday, Sept. 7, 2001, at her residence after a period of declining health.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at St. John's Episcopal Church, of which she was a member. Father Henry Burton will officiate.

A native of Boston, she had lived in Jackson County for the past 12 years. She was a retired teacher in Hillsborough County, Fla., and the daughter of the late John B. and Gladys Steele Corcoran.

Surviving are her husband, Ross L. Ring; two sons, John Robert Ring of Sylva and Ross Douglas Ring of Midlothian, Va.; and one brother, John B. Corcoran of Tennessee.

Memorials may be made to St. John's Episcopal Church, 18 Jackson St., Sylva, N.C. 28779.

Chloe Sams

Chloe Morgan Sams, infant daughter of Amy Smith and Josh Sams of Sylva, died Sept. 3, 2001.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Sunday, Sept. 9, at Parris Cemetery. The Rev. Charles Dean officiated.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one brother, Trevor Smith of the home; maternal grandparents, Max and Marjo Phillips of Sylva; paternal grandparents, Ed and Sue Hunt of Casper, Wyo.; and paternal great-grandmothers, Nola Benjamin of Frankston, Texas, and Joyce Hunt of Gibsonburg, Ohio.

Burnette Cagle

Burnette "Big Burn" Cagle, 50 of Cagle Branch, Sylva, died Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2001, at his residence after a period of declining health.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Sept. 10, at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel. The Revs. Tim Dillard, Dennis Burrell and Charles Carnes officiated. Burial was in Cagle Family Cemetery. Pallbearers were Daniel Smith, Jason Dillard, Terry Sams, Jess Cagle, Larry Cagle and Todd Baucom. Honorary pallbearer was Doyle Buchanan.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a son of Lilly Shuler Cagle of Sylva and the late Earl Cagle. He was a retired engineer with Duke Power, a 1968 graduate of Sylva-Webster High School and graduated of broadcast school in Charlotte and Southwestern Technical College in electronics. He was a DJ with WPTL in Canton and WLTM in Franklin. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by two sisters, Wilma Cagle and Artie Cagle, and twin brothers, Frank and Will Cagle.

Surviving, in addition to his mother, is his wife of 13 years, Debra P. Cagle; one daughter, Julie Cagle Naegler of Cullowhee; one son, Matthew Allen Cagle of the U.S. Air Force Base in Minot, N.D.; five sisters, Jessie Shields, Annie D. Moore, Mary Sue Coggins, Martha Lou Buchanan and Nanette Buchanan, all of Sylva; two brothers, Allen Cagle and Earl Robert Cagle Jr., both of Sylva; and five grandchildren.



Letha Williamson

Letha Belle Rogers Williamson, 84, of Whittier, formerly of West Union, S.C., died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Harris Regional Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Bill Moody Funeral Home Chapel. The Rev. Steve Phillipi officiated. Burial was in Sherrill Cemetery.

A native of Swain County, she was a daughter of the late Walker and Arlevia McElroy Rogers and wife of the late Winston Williamson. She was a member of Olivet Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by one sister, Shirley Rogers.

Surviving are two sons, Gene Williamson of Whittier and Boyd Williamson of Atlanta; one daughter, Polly Owen of Gaffney, S.C.; three sisters, Juanita Clement of Anderson, S.C., Glee Lyman of Walhalla, S.C., and Edith Welch of Newport News, Va.; five grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.



Bonnie Gunter

Bonnie Geneva Gunter, 92, of Whittier's Barkers Creek community, died Thursday, Sept. 6, 2001, at Skyland Care Center after a period of declining health.

Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 8, at Barkers Creek Cemetery. The Rev. Gerald Conner officiated.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and a member of Wayside Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Claude Gunter.

Surviving are one daughter, Sandra Queen of Whittier, and two grandchildren.

Zola Dills

Zola Hensley Dills, 87, of Skyland Care Center, Sylva, died Sunday, Sept. 9, 2001.

Melton-Riddle Funeral Home will announce arrangements.



Margie Henry

Margie Hoyle Henry, 73, of Sylva's Willetts community, died Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2001, at Mission-St. Joseph's Health System after a period of declining health.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, Sept. 7, at Ochre Hill Baptist Church, of which she was a member. The Revs. Terry Wehunt and J.D. Grant officiated. Burial was in Fairview Memorial Gardens. Pallbearers were Darrell Mathis, Doug Stiles, Mike Ray, Keith Henry, Larry Henry and Hayes Fisher. Honorary pallbearers were members of the senior adult women Sunday school class.

A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Baxter and Fannie Parris Hoyle. She retired from Dayco with 33 years of service.

She was preceded in death by two sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are her husband of 53 years, Everett Henry; one daughter, Linda Duncan of Bethel; three sisters, Annie Ray and Doris Fisher, both of Sylva, and Carrie J. Norman of Brevard; three brothers, Wayne, Paul and Alvin Hoyle, all of Sylva; three grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Ochre Hill Baptist Church Building Fund or Bus Fund, 5059 U.S. 74 East, Sylva, N.C. 28779.

Harold Frizzell

Harold "Gene" Frizzell, 57, of Sedro-Woolley, Wash., died at his home on Wednesday, Sep. 5, 2001.

Graveside services were held at Hamilton Cemetery Friday, Sept. 7, at 2 p.m. Pastor Harold Thornbrough of Hamilton First Baptist Church officiated. Military honors were provided by George Baldridge Post 43 American Legion.

He was born on July 26, 1944, in Sylva, son of Alvin and Wilma Morgan Frizzell. As a young man, he moved to Sedro Woolley, where he attended school. In 1962 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, serving until 1965.

He married Shirley Ann Harris in 1963 in Sedro-Woolley. He worked for many years in the timber industry as a choker setter and log truck driver. He worked for "Zee" Brothers of Aberdeen, Wash., and for Leonard Hombeck in Skagit and Whatcom counties for many years. He also logged in Alaska for several years until illness forced his retirement. He was a hunter and fisherman.

Surviving are three sons, Mike Frizzell, David Frizzell and Matthew Frizzell-Jackson, all of Sedro-Woolley; one daughter, Lisa Frizzell of Sedro-Woolley.; two brothers, Larry Frizzell of Aberdeen, Wash., and Johnny Frizzell of Concrete, Wash.; two sisters, Lynda Moore of Marionville, Mo., and Kaye Sherman of Sedro-Woolley; and seven grandchildren.

Memorials to Skagit Hospice are suggested.

Services were under the direction of Lemley Chapel in Sedro-Woolley.
