Brandon BrysonBrandon Bryson, 29, of Fisher Creek Road, Sylva, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002.Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at East Sylva Baptist Church. The Rev. Charles Dean officiated. Burial was at Keener Cemetery. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he attended Scotts Creek Elementary School and was a 1990 graduate of Smoky Mountain High School, where he played baseball and football. He graduated from Lenoir-Rhyne College, where he played baseball. He was a right-of-way agent for the N.C. Department of Transportation. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Fred Bryson and Betty and Charles Poteet.

Surviving are his parents, Henry and Jeanne Brady Bryson of Sylva; one brother, Brian Bryson of Sylva; and grandparents, Jerdie Bryson of Sylva and Col. H.G. Brady of Clearwater, Fla.

Eldon MossEldon Junior Moss, 74, of Pine Creek Road, Cullowhee, died Friday, Aug. 2, 2002, at Harris Regional Hospital. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Monday, Aug. 5, at Pine Creek Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnny Norris officiated. Burial was in the Pine Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Lewis, Junior and John Moss, Greg and Ricky Holland, Paul Cowan and Robert Bryson.A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a heavy equipment operator for 50 years. He was a son of the late Ferber and Dovie Coggins Moss. He was preceded in death by one son, James "Tiger" Moss; three brothers and four sisters. Surviving are his wife, Shelby Jean Pilkington Moss of the home; three daughters, Diane Allen and Loretta Watson, both of Glenville, and Darlene Rusch of Momence, Ill.; one son, Edwin Moss of Glenville; two sisters, Dolly Jennings and Hazel McNair; 11 grandchildren and three great- grandchildren. A native of Jackson County, she was a daughter of Wilma Clark Clayton and the late Ralph Clayton. She was a member of First Baptist Church of Franklin. In addition to her mother, surviving are her husband, Bobby Cope; two sons, David Cope of Sylva and Kevin Cope of Franklin; three brothers, Clark Clayton and Jim Clayton, both of Cullowhee and Tommy Clayton of Asheville; three sisters, Irene Stevens of Lake Toxaway and Joyce Millsaps and Bobbie Adams, both of Charlotte; and four grandchildren.
Etrulia WhiteEtrulia Rice White, 82, of U.S. 64 West., Cashiers, died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at Highlands-Cashiers Nursing Center after a period of declining health.Funeral services were held at 4 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 4, at Cashiers Baptist Church. The Rev. Johnny Norris officiated. Burial was in Upper Zachary Cemetery. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a member of Heady Mountain Baptist Church. She was the last child of Steve and Rosetta Crowe Rice. She was preceded in death by a son, William J. White, and three grandchildren. Surviving are one daughter, Ellen Stewart of Cashiers; three sons, Robert L. White and William E. White, both of Brevard, and the Rev. Andy Steven White of Sylva; 13 grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; and one step-great-grandchild. Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Davis ZacharyJefferson Davis Zachary, 81, of the East LaPorte community, Cullowhee, died unexpectedly on Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his residence.Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home Chapel. A native of Jackson County, he retired from Chrysler Corp. as a cost analyst. He was a son of the late James Jefferson and Amanda Stephens Zachary. He was preceded in death by one son, Stephen E. Zachary. Surviving are his wife, Faye Buchanan Zachary; two sons, Ronald Zachary and Kenneth Zachary, both of Michigan; three sisters, Betty Nicholson of Sylva, Mary Arata of Sunset Beach, S.C., and Elizabeth Kerr of Las Vegas; one brother, William "Billy" Zachary of Michigan; two grandsons; and two great-grandsons. Brooks BullockBrooks Monroe "Boody" Bullock, 82, of Cullowhee died Thursday, Aug. 1, 2002, at his home.A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug . 3, at Lovešs Chapel Methodist Church. The Rev. Dan Stiles officiated. A native of Largo, Fla., he made Cullowhee his home for the past 27 years. He served his country six years while in the Merchant Marines during World War II. He was a member of Safety Harbor Methodist Church in Safety Harbor, Fla., and worked as a pressman at ConMet Plastics in Cashiers for 11 years before retiring in 1987.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Brooks Sidney Bullock and Catherine McMullen Bullock; two brothers, James and Drayton Bullock; and two sisters, Catherine Cason and Nancy Paris.
Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Genevieve "Penny" Bullock of the home; three sons, Lester Bullock of Asheville, Lanny Bullock of Cullowhee, and Brooks Bullock II of Cartersville, Ga.; one brother, Robert Bullock of Conroe, Texas; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Ida Ann MyersIda Ann Bain Myers, 75, of Bryson City died Monday, July 29, 2002, at her home from Parkinson's disease.Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday, Aug. 2, at Bryson City United Methodist Church, of which she was a member. The Revs. David Russell and Steve Phillippi and Ray Kinsland officiated. Burial was in the Bryson City Cemetery. She was a native of Greensboro and the daughter of the late Edward Everette Bain, Jr. and Isabel Keener Bain. Through her mother she descended from some of the pioneer families of Jackson County; among them being the Keeners, Wilsons, Allisons and Brysons. She was a graduate of Sylva High School and attended Western Carolina University. She and her husband owned and operated the Bryson City Motor Court for many years. She had worked with the Swain County School System for several years. She was a former member of the Governor's Beautification Council, appointed by Gov. Jim Martin. She was preceded in death by her husband, James Paxton Myers, Sr., who died in 2001; and one sister, Betty Bain Poteet. Surviving are three sons, James Paxton Myers, Jr. of Cherokee, Joseph Feeldon Myers of Tallahassee, Fla., and Jeffrey Bain Myers of Bryson City; one brother, Edward Everette Bain III of Powder Springs; three grandchildren; and four adopted grandchildren. Bob Rigdon will officiate. The family will receive friends following the service at the home of her sister, Polly Queen of Dillsboro. She was born Sept. 13, 1918 in Andrews and lived most of her adult life in Miami. She returned to her native state, residing in Dillsboro, following her retirement from the Dade County School System, where she was a school bus driver. She served as a WAC in the Army Intelligence Corps during World War II. Surviving are her husband, Elmer Ward; two daughters, Kathi Pettry and Sue Astley, both of Atlanta; three grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
