Dorothy KingstadDorothy Ann Loomis Kingstad of Mountain Trace Nursing Center in Sylva died Monday, June 26, in Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.No services are planned. A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., she had lived in Jackson County for several years. Daughter of the late George C. and August M. Jones Loomis, she was preceded in death by her husband, Harry Kingstad; and daughter, Nancy Ginnis. Surviving is one granddaughter. Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Tom QueenTom Queen Sr., 63, of Cherokee's Soco community, died Thursday, June 29, in Haywood Regional Medical Center after a brief illness.Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1, at Soco Pentecostal Church. The Rev. Bo Parris officiated. Burial was in Washington Cemetery. A native of Jackson County, he was a logger, as well as a craftsman at the Oconaluftee Indian Village. He was a son of the late Jasper and Louzere Queen. He was preceded in death by one sister, Annie Powell; and two brothers, Jesse and Blane Queen. Surviving are his wife, Julia Queen; four daughters, Mary Sherrill, Rebecca Queen and Lisa Queen, all of Cherokee, and Kina Crowe of New Mexico; three sons, Tom Queen Jr., Jasper Queen and John Littlejohn, all of Cherokee; four sisters, Kina Littlejohn, Minnie Queen, Myrtle Bird and Eva Wolfe, all of Cherokee; two brothers, Henry and Lewis Queen of Cherokee; 13 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday, July 2, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. The Rev. Benny Bagwell officiated. Burial was in Lovedale Baptist Church Cemetery. Pallbearers were Richard Wood, Jerry Miller, Marvin Wilkes and Lyndon Ashe.A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a son of the late Obert and Gertrude Lewis Ashe. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a homemaker and member of Ochre Hill Baptist Church. She was a daughter of the late Troy and May Nicholson Rogers. She was preceded in death by one brother, James Rogers. Surviving are her husband of 64 years, Wayne Hoyle; one daughter, Nancy Mathis of Sylva; four sons, Bill Hoyle, Dan Hoyle, Terry Hoyle and Gary Hoyle, all of Sylva; one sister, Daisy Hoyle of Georgia; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. Daughter of the late James Sylvester and Clearsie Nicholson Prince, she was preceded in death by her husband, J.D. McCoy, who died in 1981; one stepson, Gilmer McMcoy; five brothers; and one sister. Surviving are one stepdaughter, June M. Johnson of Wilmington; four stepsons, Emory McCoy of Glenville, Furman McCoy of Rome, Ga., Padgett McCoy of Sylva and Curtis McCoy of Fairborn, Ohio; one sister, Mary Jane Queen of Cullowhee; and four step grandchildren. She was a daughter of the late Jerry and Faye Alexander Deitz. Surviving are her husband of 48 years, James M. Crestos of Cincinnati, Ohio; two sons, Maurice Cretsos of Dayton, Ohio, and Christopher Crestos of Cincinnati, Ohio; two brothers, Jack Deitz of Sylva and James Deitz of Fairbanks, Alaska; two sisters, Betty Leon of Hickory and Joyce Fisher of Sylva; and two grandsons. The Rev. Kelly Loge will officiate. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. tonight (Thursday) at Seymour Funeral Home. A native of Orlando, Fla., she was the daughter of Dwight and Kathryn Luettinger Towne of Whittier. She was a second-grade teacher at Northwest Elementary School and had taught school for 15 years. In addition to her parents, she is survived by her husband, Tech. Sgt. James Riedel; one daughter, Breanna Nicole Riedel of the home; and one brother, Norman Scot Towne of Atlanta.
