Leo McIntyre

Leo McIntyre, 62, of Tessentee Road, Otto, died unexpectedly Sunday, April 16.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m Wednesday, April 19, at Watauga Baptist Church. The Revs. David Lee Williams and Wesley Price officiated. Burial was in Asbury Methodist Church Cemetery with Masonic rites conducted by the Junaluskee Masonic Lodge 145.

A native of Macon County, he was the son of Sadie Franks McIntyre of Franklin and the late Ray McIntyre, who died in 1992. He was the husband of the late Betty Jeanne McIntyre, who also died in 1992. A truck driver and U.S. Army veteran, he was a member of Watauga Baptist Church, Junaluskee Masonic Lodge 145, Moose Lodge and the American Legion Post 108.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by one son, Tom McIntyre of Otto; two daughters, Meg Corwin of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Marcy Dalton of Franklin; three sisters, Wanda Baker, Frances McIntyre-Bishop and Katie Shope, all of Franklin; and three grandchildren.

Catherine Rhinehart

Catherine "Kate" Allen Moore Rhinehart, 95, Webster's oldest resident, died Wednesday, April 12, at Harris Regional Hospital.

A program in her memory was held at 10 a.m. Saturday, April 15, at Webster United Methodist Church. The Rev. Jerry Denham officiated, assisted by the Rev. Dr. J. C. Alexander, and many members of the community.

A native of Ellijay in Macon County, she had been a resident of Jackson County for the past 70 years. She was the daughter of the late Jacob Parker Moore and Allie Pauline Allen Moore and Sallie Stewart Moore and the wife of the late Joseph Wayne Rhinehart, Jr. who died in 1986.

She was a retired teacher, teaching 42 years in Jackson and Macon County schools including Mountain Grove School, Franklin, Highlands, Glenville, Webster, Sylva-Webster High School, and Southwestern Community College. She attended Ellijay and Hidgonville schools and graduated from Franklin High School. She received her bachelor's degree in English and history and master's degree in Latin from Stetson University in Deland, Fla. She also attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill, N.C. State University, Western Carolina University, and the University of Georgia.

She was a member of the Madeline Reed Book Club, Jackson County Retired School Personnel, a volunteer at Harris Regional Hospital, member of the Webster United Methodist Church and was Sunday school superintendent at her death, member of the United Methodist Women, the Webster and Jackson County historical societies, the Jackson County Arts Council, and was former state chairman of the N.C. Junior Classical League.

Surviving are two sons, Joe Parker Rhinehart of Webster and James William Rhinehart of Stone Mountain, Ga.; one sister, Ann Moore Berry of Franklin; two granddaughters; and three great-granddaughters.

Doris Effler

Doris E. Effler, 76, of Zillah, Wash., died Wednesday, April 12, at Providence Yakima Medical Center.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 17, at Paramus Congregational Church. Burial was at the George Washington Memorial Park in Paramus, N.J.

She was born in Ridgefield Park, N.J., to Adam J. and Emma A. Muller Henrich. She graduated from Ridgefield Park High School. In 1946, she married Walter J. Effler and they lived in Paramus for the first 32 years of their marriage. She was employed as a bookkeeper until 1980 when she moved to in Sylva, and later to Billings, Mont., and Zillah. In each town that she lived, she volunteered at the local hospitals.

Surviving are one son, Dean Effler of Zillah, Wash.; one sister, Mildred Timony of Pennsylvania; two grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

Anna Bello

Anna Bello, 72, of Sylva, died Thursday, April 13, in Orange City, Fla., after a period of declining health.

A native of Middlesex County, Mass., she had lived in Jackson County for several years. She was a daughter of the late Fio J. and Marie J. Lepore Rastellini.

Surviving are her husband, George J. Bello; one daughter, Dianne M. Strombeck of Orange City, Fla.; one son, Robert G. Bello of Sylva; one sister, Marie Collins of Orange City; and two brothers, William and Edward Rastellini, both of Orange City.

Funeral services and burial were held in Deland, Fla.

Melton-Riddle Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
