Hattie DiDomenico

Hattie Lou Long McCall DiDomenico, 84, of 10 Bradford Circle, Waynesville, died Thursday, March 30, at Silver Bluff Nursing Home. Funeral services will be held at 10 am. Friday, April 14, at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Va.

A daughter of the late John C. and Launa Henson Long, she was a retired school teacher with 37 years of service. She began her teaching career in Glenville and taught in Pinellas County School System in St. Petersburg, Fla., most of her career. She attended First Baptist Church of Waynesville.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Bruce McCall, who died in 1969; and her second husband, John S. DiDomenico, who died in 1999.

Surviving are three stepsons, Mike DiDomenico of Gretna, La., Robert DiDomenico of Vienna, Va., and Ronald DiDomenico of Winter Haven, Fla.; one stepdaughter, Carols Sims of Springhill, La.; one sister, Shirley Mace of Cullowhee; and four brothers, Eldon Long of Jacksonville, Fla., James Long of Whittier, Gene Long of Arden and Robert Long of Sylva.

Creola Caldwell

Creola Williams Caldwell, 80, of Ensley Adult Care in Sylva, formerly of Waynesville, died Wednesday, April 5, at the care center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 7, at Wells Funeral Home in Waynesville. The Revs. Charles Dean and Doug Brown officiated. Burial was in Ratcliffe Cove Cemetery. Pallbearers were Charles Dotson, Guy Dillard, Guy Angel, Doug Edwards, Ken Ashe and Dean Reeves. Honorary pallbearers were members of the Adult No. 3 Sunday school class.

A native of Haywood County, she was the daughter of the late Samuel Monroe and Jessie Kerley Williams. She was a member of Ratcliffe Cove Baptist Church, was very active in church and community, was a member of the Adult No. 3 Sunday school class and a member of the Women's Missionary Union for 50 years.

Surviving are her daughter, Vickie Dillard of Sylva; two sons, Robert Kevin Caldwell of Florence, Ala., and David Nevin Caldwell of Newtown, Conn; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

Joseph Mangiardi

Dr. Joseph Leonard Mangiardi, 82, of Timber Ridge Drive, Cashiers, died Wednesday, April 5.

Funeral services were held 11 a.m. Saturday, April 8, at St. Jude's Catholic Church in Sapphire Valley.

Bryant Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.



Jacob Hill

Jacob Jake Hill, 74, of Cherokee's Big Cove community, died Monday, April 10, in Harris Regional Hospital after a period of declining health.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today (Thursday) at Big Cove Baptist Church. The Revs. James Red Bradley, Harold Jerry Orr and Bo Parris will officiate. Burial will be in Hill Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Steve Youndeer Post.

A native and lifelong resident of Swain County, he was the son of the late Levi and Laura Jane Wolfe. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II.

He was preceded in death by one son, Dennis Ruben Hill; and one daughter, Jeanette Hill Ward.

Surviving are his wife, Golinda; five daughters, Laura Pinnix, Maxine Stigman, Lucetta Ward, Mary Hill and Rachel Hill, all of Cherokee; one son, Calvin Hill of Cherokee; 11 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

The family was to have received friends from 7 to 9 p.m. Wednesday, April 12, at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home, where the body will remain until placed in the church at noon today.
