Samuel HustonSamuel Henry Huston, 86, of Oak Ridge, Tenn., died Sunday, March 12, in an Oak Ridge retirement center.A memorial service was held Sunday, March 19, at 2 p.m. at the Cashiers First United Methodist Church. The Rev. David Beam officiated. He was a retired chemist and a member of the Oak Ridge First United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Guide Pence Huston, who died in 1983. Surviving are one son, Samuel Michael "Mike" Huston of Knoxville, Tenn.; one sister, Mary Keffer of Auburn, Wash.; and one granddaughter. Jerald CogdillJerald Lee Cogdill, 64, of Balsam Loop Road, Balsam, died Saturday, March 18, at his residence.Funeral services were held at 7 p.m. Sunday, March 19, at Balsam Baptist Church. The Revs. Johnny Swanger and Hardin Nicholson officiated. Burial was held Monday, March 20, at Garrett-Hillcrest Memorial Gardens Mausoleum. A son of Charlie Baxter Cogdill of Sylva and the late Dollie Queen Cogdill, he was a self-employed carpenter and a member of Balsam Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Ann Cutshaw Cogdill, who died in 1990; one sister, Mozelle Cogdill; and one brother, Frank Wilson Cogdill. Surviving are four daughters, Anita Freeman and Kay Mills, both of Balsam, Phyllis Bolick of Sylva and Lisa Scruggs of Franklin; two brothers, George Willard Cogdill of Waynesville and Lanny D. Cogdill of Sylva; four sisters, Dixie Crawford, Clarine Norman and Joyce Davis, all of Sylva, and Divola Nicholson of Pisgah Forest; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Ray GreenRay Green, 73, of Mitchell Road, Sylva, died unexpectedly Tuesday, March 14, at his residence.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 17, at Melton-Riddle Funeral Home. Pallbearers were Ray Sutton, Larry Ward, Stanley Green, Morrison Green, Bruce Bradley, Harold Cogdill, Roy Tucker and Randy Bumgarner. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, he was a retired painter and the son of the late Leamon George and Grace Hall Green. He was preceded in death by his wife, Doris Sutton Green, who died Feb. 7. Surviving are two sons, Jerry Green of the home and Rick Green of Sylva; five sisters, Margie Sutton and Bennie Green, both of Sylva, Doris Barron of Spartanburg, S.C., Jane Hughes of Arden and Juanita Ward of Asheville; and one brother, Morrison Green of Sylva. Judy FradyJudy Kay Blough Frady, 56, of Cedar Valley Road, Tuckasegee, died Sunday, March 19, at her residence following a period of declining health.Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 21, in the chapel of Melton-Riddle Funeral Home. The Rev. Mike Moore officiated. Burial was in Wesley Chapel Cemetery. Pallbearers were Gene Clark, Chris Broom, Johnny King, Eddie Henry, Mike Bumgarner and Doug Campbell. A native of Nemaha County, Kan., she had lived in Jackson County since 1981. She was a bookkeeper at Highlands Country Club. She was a daughter of Paul Alfred Blough of Hayesville, Ohio, and Marie Boman Blough and stepdaughter of Herbert, both of Nashville, Tenn. Surviving, in addition to her parents and stepfather, are her husband, Howard Frady; one daughter, Sarah Dotulong of Indonesia; one son, Steven Frady of Columbus; one sister, Patricia Kleeman of Lebanon, Ind.; two brothers, Bernard Blough of Nashville and Roger Blough of Roswell, N.M.; and two grandchildren. Vergie SellersVergie Ensley Sellers, 83, of Sellers Road, Sylva, died Monday, March 20, at Skyland Care Center.Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, at Scotts Creek Baptist Church. The Revs. Rich Peoples and Mike Moore officiated. Burial was at Fairview Memorial Gardens. Grandsons served as pallbearers. A native and lifelong resident of Jackson County, she was a member and former Sunday school teacher at Scotts Creek Baptist Church. She was the daughter of the late Erastus and Rebecca Cope Ensley and the wife of the late Halley G. Sellers Sr. She was preceded in death by her son, Billy Joe Sellers; two brothers, Roosevelt and Dennis Ensley; and one granddaughter. Surviving are two sons, James Sellers and Harley Sellers Jr., both of Sylva; three daughters, Mary Allen of Waynesville, Gail Buchanan of Brevard and Glenda Adams of Sylva; three sisters, Eloise Snipes, Louetta Sluder and Fannie Painter, all of Sylva; l3 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Willa DeanWilla Mae Hooper Dean, 84, of Pottery Shop Drive, Cleveland, Ga., died Monday, March 20, at a private health care center following an extended illness.Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 22, in the chapel of Barrett Funeral Home in Cleveland. The Revs. John Rolaider and Henry Loggins officiated. Burial was in White Creek Baptist Church Cemetery. A native of Jackson County, she lived in Stone Mountain, Ga., the past 40 years before moving to Cleveland a few months ago. She was a homemaker and daughter of the late Leon and Clara Stephens Hooper. She was a member of Union Grove Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by two grandchildren. Surviving are her husband, Samuel O. Dean of Cleveland; four sons, David L. Dean of Arden, Wilford Dean of Cleveland, Robert Dean of Fort Valley, Ga., and the Rev. Darrell Dean of Lawrenceville, Ga.; one sister, Fannie Green of Sylva; 12 grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
