Bullis Bullis

Ed Bullis

Ed Bullis, 86, of Garland Ashe Road, Cullowhee, died Sunday, Jan. 20, 2002, at his residence after a brief illness.

A funeral mass was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 23, at St. Maryıs Catholic Church, of which he was a member. Father James Cahill officiated. Burial was at St. Charles Cemetery in Long Island, N.Y.

A native of Brooklyn, N.Y., he had lived in Jackson County for the past four and a half years. He was owner of the Gay Dome Tavern and Fireside Restaurant in Long Island, N.Y. Son of the late Edward and Mary Agnes Bittner Bullis, he was a songwriter.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Frank Bullis and William Bullis; one son, Jack Bullis; and one grandson. Surviving are his wife of 65 years, Helen J. Bullis; one son, William Bullis of Cullowhee; one sister, Ruth Walsh of Houston; one grandson; and two great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Catholic Church Music Fund, 22 Bartlett St., Sylva, N.C. 28779.

Earl Sims

Earl H. Sims, 62, of Crestview, Fla., died Wednesday, Jan. 9, 2002, of cancer. He was buried with military honors.

Born June 3, 1939, in Jackson County, he lived here until he joined the U.S. Air Force 1958. He was a member of Omega Masonic Lodge.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Harley and Thelma Sims; one sister, Lillian; and one brother, Coleman.

Surviving are his wife of 43 years, Lela Bowers Sims; two daughters, Pamela Lahti of Austin, Texas, and Angela Hope of Crestview, Fla.; one son, Earl Sims Jr.; one sister, Helen Starnes of Miami; one brother, Charles Sims of Trout Creek; and five grandchildren.



Nellie Franklin

Nellie C. Franklin, 85, of Sylva, died Saturday, Jan. 19, 2002, in a Sylva care center.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 22, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home. The Rev. Dillard Moore officiated. Burial was in Franklin Cemetery.

She was a native and lifelong resident of Jackson County and was a member of Cope Creek House of Prayer. She was a daughter of the late Nelson and Mary Gibbs Franklin.

She was preceded in death by four sisters and two brothers.

Surviving are one sister, Rose Lee Woodring of Sylva; and one brother, Charles B. Franklin of Sylva.

Wyatt Bowles

Wyatt Mitri Bowles, infant son of Mark and Tammy Bowles of Waynesville, died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, in Memorial Mission Hospital.

Funeral services were held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 16, in the chapel of Moody Funeral Home.

Surviving, in addition to the parents, are one brother, River Bowles; and two sisters, Pixie and Emma Bowles, all of the home.

George Frizzell

George Collins Frizzell, 73, of Leonard Road, Lexington, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2002, in Forsyth Medical Center after an extended illness. Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, 20, at Davidson Funeral Home, Lexington Chapel. The Rev. Frankie Matthews officiated. Burial was in Forest Hill Memorial Park with military graveside rites.

A native of Jackson County, he was born Jan. 30, 1928, to Charlie Frizzell and Etta Lewis Frizzell. He retired from Henry Link Furniture and was a member of Little Savannah Baptist Church.

He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of the VFW Post 3074 and American Legion Post 8.

Surviving are his wife, Carrie Farmer Frizzell; one son, Sidney Frizzell of Lexington; one daughter, Jackie Brodar of Lexington; one brother, Dennis Frizzell of Sylva; two sisters, Lucille Farmer of Sylva and Edith Cole of Horseshoe; and three grandchildren.



Hugh England

Hugh B. England, 83, of Waterford, Mich., formerly of Whittier, died on Monday, Jan. 14, 2002.

Funeral services were held at at 11 a.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Simpson-Modetz Riverside Chapel in Waterford, Mich.

He was a son of the late George and Susan England.

Surviving are two daughters, Sharon Davenport and Sandra Anderson, both of Waterford; two brothers, Jack England of Whittier and Dennis England of Pontiac, Mich.; four sisters, Loris Edmonds of Whittier, Melba Henderson of Hendersonville, Neva Black of Carmi, Ill., and Nezzie Myrgo of Cannonsburg, Pa.; three grandchildren; two step grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.



Terry Williams

Terry Elaine Brice-Williams, 49, of Pontiac, Mich., died Thursday, Jan. 10, 2002, at a Pontiac hospital.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Friday, Jan. 18, at Glorious Way Full Gospel Church in Pontiac, of which she was a member. The Rev. Eugenia Harris officiated. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery.

A native of Jackson County, she was the daughter of the late Marlyn Cox and William Suddeth. She worked as a custodian at Western Carolina University and continued to work as a custodian after moving to Pontiac, Mich. She was a former member of True Church House of Prayer in Pontiac, Mich.

Surviving are her husband, Lindsay Williams; one daughter, Michelle Franklin of Pontiac, Mich.; her grandmother, Wilma Simpson of Sylva; and three grandchildren.



Robert L. Balliot

Robert L. Balliot, 71, of Cullowhee, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, after an extended illness.

Moody Funeral Home will announce arrangements.



Emily Wynn

Emily Elizabeth Wynn, infant daughter of David and Stacy Wynn of Whittier, died Wednesday, Jan. 16, 2002, at Harris Regional Hospital. Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 20, at Swain Memorial Park.

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are one brother, Ryan of the home; paternal grandparents, John and Carolyn Wynn of Whittier; and maternal grandparents, Donnie and Ellen Gilbo of Morristown, N.Y.

Crisp Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
