Head Start/Early Head Start is enrolling for the 2019-2020 school year. They serve children from birth to age 5 with free, superior child care and school readiness.

Head Start/Early Head Start provides children from low-income families the opportunity to be well prepared when it’s time for Kindergarten. Each child receives health, dental and developmental screenings with followup as required. Services are available for children with special needs.

Teachers are highly qualified, and two meals and a snack are provided. Parents become part of the program, and family support services are provided. Extended hours are available for parents working or going to school. Regular hours are Monday-Friday 8 a.m.-3 p.m.

The program is free for income eligible families. Head Start is a federally funded program, which has been in operation since 1965. Locally, Mountain Projects operates the Head Start/Early Head Start program with centers in Clyde, Canton, Waynesville, Sylva, and Cullowhee.
