Each month of the school year, Smoky Mountain High School recognizes a staff member who has gone above and beyond their responsibilities to help make the school a better place. Any member of staff can be nominated by any other member of the staff for the SMHS Staff Shout Out Award.

For the month of September, the entire SMHS Maintenance Department was nominated by multiple staff members for the extra work and care they have been taking to keep students and staff safe while in school.

“We all know how hard our custodial team works on a daily basis to keep our campus clean and cared for,” SMHS Principal Evelyn Graning said. “This year, they have taken on the added responsibility of hourly disinfecting public areas, ensuring furniture is arranged for safe distancing, and completing every other unusual task they’ve been asked to do, and all while being positive and upbeat. Our custodial team is second to none and very deserving of this recognition.”
