Local high school and college graduates
Terry Pollard of Sylva graduated with a Doctor of Education from the University of Mississippi on May 11 at the university’s 166th Commencement.
Keegan Reed of Sylva, Kaitlyn Wolfrey of Sylva, Kysis Taylor of Whittier and Charles Franks of Sylva graduated from Victory Christian School, a Sylva area high school. Reed was class valedictorian.
Dolores Taylor and Bobbierae Maslo earned associate degrees from SCC, and they were featured speakers at their respective divisions’ graduation ceremonies.
Taylor, a Cherokee resident who is earning degrees in Human Services Technology and Substance Abuse Treatment, spoke at the Health Sciences commencement. She’s planning to work in the field and pursue her bachelor’s degree at Western Carolina University so that she can become a licensed clinical social worker.
Maslo, of Cullowhee, received her associate in arts. She is transferring to WCU’s Elementary Education program at WCU and hopes to find her first teaching job in Jackson County.
Maslo spoke at the ceremony for Arts, Sciences and Early College.
