National Falls Prevention Awareness Day brings communities together in support of healthy aging.
The Jackson County Department on Aging Senior Center and Western Carolina University are working together to celebrate Falls Prevention Awareness Day on Sept. 23 by offering a free balance screening opportunity for adults age 50 and older.
To help older adults stay safe and active, WCU’s physical therapy graduate students will offer free screenings and recommendations at the Department on Aging Senior Center at 100 County Services Park in Sylva.
Participants will be tested on several balance measures and learn ways to build strength, improve their balance and build confidence. For questions or to register, contact the Jackson County Senior Center at 586-5494 to sign up for a time to get your balance tested. The first appointment time is 1:30 p.m. Each takes about 45 minutes.
