Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital provide comprehensive pain services in Jackson, Macon and Swain counties. Harris Pain Center, with locations in Sylva and Franklin, is now open and scheduling appointments.
Services provided at pain centers include diagnosis and treatment of a number of chronic conditions, including neck and back pain, headaches and migraines, fibromyalgia, cancer pain, diabetic and joint pain, arthritis, neuropathic pain, sciatica and complex regional pain syndrome. Treatments include interventional pain procedures such as spinal cord stimulator implantation and management. Dr. Ed Lewis and Dr. Leland Berkwits will evaluate and treat patients, by physician referral, at all locations.
Lewis has practiced interventional pain management in the region for nearly 20 years. He has been certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology since 1989 and by the American Board of Pain Medicine since 1995.
Berkwits has been certified by the American board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation since 1993 and has been certified in the subspecialty of pain medicine since 2006.
