Harris Regional Hospital has added Dr. Bernd Holler, a board certified neonatologist, to the New Generations Family Birthing Center at Harris, where he will lead inpatient neonatal and pediatric patient care.
Harris Regional Hospital is the only facility in the counties west of Haywood providing labor and delivery services.
Holler attended the Christian Albrecht University in Kiel, Germany studying chemistry and medicine before coming to the United States.
At Dartmouth/Hitchcock Medical Center he completed his pediatric residency. He worked as a pediatrician in a rural setting in Northern Michigan for a number of years before returning for a fellowship in neonatal-perinatal medicine at Michigan State University/Sparrow Hospital.
Holler comes to Harris from San Antonio, Texas where he worked at high acuity neonatal units for the past 16 years. He is certified by the American Board of Neonatal-Perinatal Medicine and the American Board of Pediatrics.
“With the arrival of Dr. Holler at Harris Regional Hospital we are marking another historic moment in a series of milestones for our community,” said Steve Heatherly, CEO of Harris Regional Hospital and Swain Community Hospital. “Dr. Holler is the first neonatologist to locally serve the Harris and Swain communities. In addition to the investments we have made in our facility, equipment and technology, Dr. Holler’s skillset makes it possible for more families to have expanded access to expert neonatal and pediatric care close to home.”
