While Jackson County kids can’t gather to celebrate Bike at/to School Day as they typically would this year, they can still take time to recognize the importance of community connection, safety and health.
The Department of Public Health Safe Routes to School coordinator has come up with a list of resources and ways kids can still bike and walk while following social distancing requirements. Check out that list here: https://btsdwnc.weebly.com.
Though not every idea will fit every community, the health department encourages children and parents to pick among the options that make sense for their area and fit with local public health guidance. Anyone interested is asked to post pictures and tag them #BikeToSchoolWNC.
The Safe Routes to School Program in Western North Carolina is housed at the Jackson County Department of Public Health and serves Jackson, Haywood, Macon and Swain counties.
