Local residents seeking part-time or full-time employment have an upcoming opportunity to meet with several local employers in one convenient location.
The Jackson County NCWorks Career Center and Jackson County Public Library are co-sponsoring a Career Fair from 1:30-4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 16, at the Jackson County Public Library.
Participating employers for this inaugural event include: Aramark, Beasley Flooring, B.H. Graning Landscapes, Creekside Oyster House and Grill, Drake Enterprises, Great Smoky Mountains Railroad, Harrah’s Cherokee Casino, Jackson County Administration, Mad Batter Kitchen, Nightstar Lodging, Southwestern Community College, U.S. Census Bureau, Vero Health and Rehab, and Webster Enterprises.
Job seekers are encouraged to bring an updated resume and dress for an interview. Any job seeker needing resume assistance is encouraged to visit the Jackson County NCWorks Career Center, 56 Ridgeway St., Sylva, prior to the hiring event and a career advisor will assist in developing a resume.
Paula Alter, Career Center manager for the Macon, Jackson and Swain County NCWorks Career Centers, said they are hoping that Jackson County career fairs will become a regular occurrence.
“With the current low unemployment rate, it’s challenging for employers to fill open positions.” she said. “The goal of our career fair is to expand our outreach efforts and provide face-to-face networking opportunities between job seekers and employers. We’re so appreciative of our partnership with the Jackson County Public Library in providing a convenient location for them to connect.”
Those with transportation issues to the library are encouraged to take advantage of the Jackson Trolley service, which stops at the library. More information may be found online at www.jacksoncountytransit.com/jackson-trolley.
