The Eastern Band of the Cherokee Indians Board of Elections has released the unofficial results of the June 6 primary election. The general election is scheduled for Sept. 5.

The top two vote-getters in the principal chief and vice chief (they do not run as a ticket) advance to general election.

In the race for principal chief, Teresa McCoy (1,132 votes) and incumbent Richie Sneed (1,117) advance.

Incumbent Alan “B” Ensley (1,089) and Jim Owle (551) will run in the vice chief contest.

The top four candidates in each of the six Tribal Council will face off in the general election.

For the Big Cove seats on Tribal Council, Richard French (186), Perry Shell (164), Fred Penick (141) and Renee Long Cole (100) advance.

For the Birdtown seats, Boyd Owle (428), Albert Rose (375), Nelson Lambert (299) and Ashley Sessions (183) advance.

For the Painttown seats, Dike Sneed (169), Tommye Saunooke (151), Cherie Bird Rose (105) and Pam Sneed (104) advance

For the Wolftown seats, Bo Crowe (430), Bill Taylor (172), Nathaniel “Bunsey” Crowe (122) and Chelsea Saunooke (118) move forward.

For the Yellowhill seats, David T. Wolfe (223), Tom Wahnetah (166), Stephanie Saunooke French (76) and Tawania Ensley (64) will advance.

A primary was not held in Cherokee County’s Snowbird community, as only four candidates filed to run.

School board elections are not part of the primary and will be voted on in September.
