This week’s tip includes some more suggestions for making your yard more wildlife-friendly over the winter.
One of the best ways you can help birds, bees and other wildlife is to create habitat. You can do this by leaving a brush pile or two somewhere on your property. Some bees and birds make nests in these piles.
Some bees, like bumblebees, also nest in bunch grasses or in bare dirt. Consider leaving some areas bare and either this fall or in early spring, plant some native grass species such as switchgrass and prairie dropseed (of course, search for grasses native to your particular area).
