With the Christmas shopping season upon us, here are some ideas for sustainable gifts:

• Ask people what they want so they don’t end up throwing or giving away a gift that they don’t want or need.

• Experiences (trips, wine tastings, AirBnB gift card, etc.).

• Homemade items based on a hobby you have and something the recipient likes (e.g. crafts, homemade canned foods or jams, plants or seeds).

• Homemade hot cocoa mix, spice mixes, soup mixes, baked goods, dehydrated fruits and vegetables, or homemade granola (try to use containers you already have).

• Used books.

• Items to help others live more sustainably (bees wrap, reusable silicone bags or bowl covers, reusable straws, etc.).

• Lottery tickets or scratch-offs.

• Charitable donations (based on things the recipient cares about).

• Coupons for something you can help the recipient with (e.g. babysitting, cleaning the house).

• A spa gift card.

• Handmade, local soaps or other local, consumable products.
