James McLachlan

James McLachlan has been called as Bishop for the Waynesville Ward Chapel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. McLachlan is a professor in philosophy and religion at Western Carolina University.

The Asheville North Carolina Stake Presidency of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints called a new Bishopric for the Waynesville Ward on July 20.

James McLachlan has been called as Bishop succeeding Stephen Adler, who served for the past six and a half years. McLachlan is a professor in philosophy and religion at Western Carolina University.

Richard Wood Jr., regional solution engineer with Avaya in Waynesville, was called to assist McLachlan as first counselor, and James Wessling, CMM technician with ConMet in Bryson City, was called as second counselor.

All callings in the church are voluntary and when members accept a calling, they accept it in addition to retaining their current employment.

The new Bishopric will be responsible for members living within the Ward boundaries, which extend from Canton to Sylva and Cullowhee.
