THE HOOPER FAMILY REUNION will be held Saturday beginning at noon with a covered-dish luncheon. The reunion is being held at the Senior Citizen and Activity Center in Hiawassee, Georgia. THE INTERNATIONAL ESSENTIAL TREMOR FOUNDATION Foundation (IETF)  support group  will meet at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Jackson County  Senior Center Room #135. Learn coping skills and available products to help and learn the difference between Parkinson’s and Essential Tremor. The group serves individuals in Jackson, Macon, Swain and Haywood Counties. LIGHTS FOR LIBERTY will gather for a candlelight vigil 9-9:30 p.m. Friday at the fountain in downtown Sylva. They will bring candles or flashlights and stand together as part of a nationwide vigil for the humane treatment of families in detention camps at our borders. The public is invited to participate. Lights for Liberty describes itself as “a coalition of people, many of whom are mothers, dedicated to human rights, and the fundamental principle behind democracy that all human beings have a right to life, liberty and dignity.”


THE 148TH BARAK NORTON REUNION will be held at 11:30 a.m. Sunday, July 28, at the Whiteside Cove Community Building.


THE GUARDIAN AD LITEM PROGRAM is currently seeking volunteers to be the voice of  children in the court system. The North Carolina Guardian ad Litem Program’s work is only made possible by dedicated volunteers who are committed to the cause of keeping children safe from future harm. A training class for volunteers from Macon, Jackson, Swain and Haywood counties is set for July 16 and 18, 23 and 25, 30, and August 1.
