Caleb Mason, left, and Carlos Escamilla set up live Fraser fir Christmas trees on the lot of Canada community residents George Stephens and his wife, Barbara. The couple has sold Christmas trees in Jackson County for about 40 years, including 16 in their present location, between Dairy Queen and Zaxby’s on East Main Street.
The Stephens have been – and their customers will be – affected by the nationwide shortage of Christmas trees. “A lot of it is the height,” George Stephens said. “It’s going to be hard to find bigger trees this year. All the trees are going to be higher in price this year.” Stephens has about 500 trees to sell. “That’s usually what we sell every year,” he said. “That’s all I can get this year, so when those go, that will be it.”
