At 6 p.m. today (Thursday), the Jackson County Public Library is hosting professional organizer Shannon Smith to help everyone with their decluttering. This program is in the Community Room and is free of charge. Masks are required in all Jackson County buildings.

Smith will present simple steps to help edit, curate and contain belongings, as well as library resources that will help organize a home.

Smith, a newer resident to Western North Carolina, has a background in education, business, library studies and museum curation. She began carving out a small side-business doing something that brought together skills from her diverse background and her passion for personal improvement: professional organizing.

In the mid 2000s, Smith decided to combine her passion for personal style, and her ability to organize from her library and museum curation career into a side-business helping others to get the most from editing, curating and organizing their personal homes. She soon observed the outcomes of creating an organized space for clients wasn’t just a more organized and functional space, but also created personal outcomes in the lives of people that were unexpected, she said.

At 2 p.m. Friday, the Library is starting a Foreign Film Series. Each month, on the second and fourth Friday at 2 p.m., two movies from around the globe will be shown. This program is in the Community Room and is free of charge.
