A Cullowhee man was airlifted to Mission Hospital in Asheville after his motorcycle was struck by another vehicle Saturday afternoon in front of the Sylva Fire Department.

Robert Lewis Jordan Jr., 51, of Freedom Drive, remained a patient at Mission as of Tuesday afternoon.

The accident happened at 4:47 p.m. when a 2004 Jeep operated by Kyle Matthew Bradley, 19, of Carolina Drive, Whittier, attempted to make a left turn onto West Main Street from Municipal Drive.

The Jeep struck Jordan’s 1994 Harley Davidson, which was traveling west on West Main at 25 mph, according to a report filed by Officer Maleah Mathis of the Sylva Police Department.

Bradley was charged with failure to yield right of way.

Westbound traffic on West Main was detoured onto Municipal Drive until the accident scene was cleared.
