Counterfeit money passed in Cherokee

Posted: Wednesday, June 5, 2013 1:45 pm

The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office has received information from an area bank indicating counterfeit money is surfacing in the Whittier and Cherokee area, primarily with businesses.

“The Sheriff’s Office wants to advise local business owners to be aware of this information and request clerks become more aware of potential counterfeit bills being passed,” Major Shannon Queen said.

He said $20 and $10 bills are primarily being used, and counterfeit pen markers are not always showing the bills to be fake upon initial markings.

Anyone who suspects a person is trying to pass counterfeit money should call law enforcement immediately, Queen said.
