Jackson County law enforcement was pulled into a manhunt for a bank robber on Tuesday.

The alleged suspect, Brian Keith Leonhart, robbed First Citizens Bank at 1201 Tunnel Road in Asheville on Monday. He fled the scene in a stolen 2010 Mitsubishi Endeavor.

That vehicle turned up on Sugar Loaf Road Tuesday morning and a Ford Focus was stolen nearby, Jackson County Sheriff Chip Hall said.

Leonhart was apprehended Tuesday shortly after 2 p.m. following a short car and foot chase in Black Mountain.

Leonhart approached a traffic checkpoint where an officer identified the second stolen car. He fled in the vehicle which he later crashed.

Leonhart left that scene on foot and was later arrested in a home on Genesis Circle.

Police said he broke into the home after attempting to break into several others, according to media reports.
