A Jackson County man has been arrested on drug charges following an investigation into his activities.
Dustin Scott Dillard, 39, of Skyland Drive was arrested for felony trafficking opium or heroin, felony possession of firearm by felon, felony possession of heroin, felony possession of methamphetamine, felony maintaining a vehicle/dwelling/place for distribution of a controlled substance and misdemeanor possession of drug paraphernalia.
The arrest is the culmination of a yearlong investigation, said Sylva Police Chief Chris Hatton.
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office assisted Sylva police with the effort.
Dillard was arrested at his residence at the Azalea Motel on the morning of March 11. He was served with a search warrant for his room at the motel.
“We used his history, information gained from other people (and) a knowledge of activity going on at his residence to establish probable cause for a search warrant,” Hatton said.
The search yielded seven grams of methamphetamine, more than 25 grams of opioids, including a heroin base and oxycodone, and two firearms, a Sig Sauer model P238 .380 caliber and a Sig Sauer model P365 9mm.
No other arrests were made in connection to the investigation, Hatton said.
Dillard received a $60,000 secured bond. His first court appearance was March 17.
