The Main Street Sylva Association (MSSA) is set to host a sidewalk sale Saturday. Businesses up and down Main and Mill streets will move merchandise outdoors, offering shoppers specials in the fresh air.
The sale takes place two to four times per year and is meant to encourage people to get out and shop local in light of the upcoming holidays and Black Friday.
Businesses that wish to participate can highlight or sell products outside of their stores, and many will also be giving discounts on select items or their whole inventories.
Participating merchants who will be offering deals include In You Ear Music, offering a 10 percent discount storewide (excluding items already on sale); Snake Song, offering extra arrangements and tea service; The Mountain Laurel Shop, offering a 10 percent discount on items inside and outside the store and highlighting their wooden products and hand-made products; Friends of the Library Bookstore, which will have special categories of books on sale; City Lights Bookstore, which will have used books marked down and other storewide discounts; Sassy Frass Consignment which will have discounts on select products; the Jackson Arts Market and more.
Like many other events and aspects of life, the sidewalk sale was affected by the COVID-19 pandemic last year.
“Most crowd-gathering events were canceled last year, however, some merchants put items for sale outside to help spread out customers,” said Bernadette Peters of the MSSA.
However, the hope for this year is that the sale will result in big business and big savings for merchants and customers alike.
The Jackson Arts Market Stage will also be hosting live music provided by the band E Rock Babeyy.
According to the Weather Channel, the forecast for Saturday calls for partly cloudy skies with a low temperature in the upper 20s and a high in the mid 50s. There is almost no chance of rain.
