THE JACKSON COUNTY PLANNING BOARD meeting scheduled for today (Thursday) has been canceled. The next meeting is 6 p.m. Sept. 12 in the Heritage Room of the Department on Aging.

The Jackson County Democratic Party will hold its monthly meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 20, at party headquarters at 500 Mill St., Sylva. The meeting is open to all Democrats. JCDP monthly meetings include all precinct officers and party executive officers and representatives of auxiliary organizations (Men’s Club, Democratic Women, Young Dem).

THE WINE BAR AND CELLAR (formerly Papou’s) will hold a fundraiser for the Jackson County Humane Society (ARF) at 6 p.m. Friday, Aug. 16, a tasting of five samples for $15. There will also be a silent auction.

The Jackson County Senior Center will host a yard sale and craft show from 8 a.m.–-1 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 14, at the Department on Aging, 100 County Services Park. Yard sale tables are available to rent for $10 each or two for $15 by calling the Senior Center at 586-5494.

The Jackson County Republican Party will meet at 6:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 19, at the Dillsboro Masonic Lodge. The program includes precinct information and 2020 election plans. The Masonic Lodge is at 223 Wilkes Crescent Drive, Sylva.

The Jackson Volunteer Center is seeking help in Jackson County for: meal delivery, assistance relocating clients, client transportation to appointments; Appalachian Women’s Museum, assist with programs, archiving, maintenance, lawn work, gardening; Hands on Jackson. SMOKY MOUNTAIN HIGH SCHOOL hosts Meet The Teachers from 4-6 p.m. Tuesday. Teachers will be in their classrooms to meet with and answer any questions students and parents might have about the classes. Meet the Mustangs is from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 15, at Carr Hooper Stadium. A hot dog dinner will be served for $5 from 6-7 p.m. Team introductions will start at 7 p.m.
