A Valentine’s Day fire burned an empty trailer at 73 Brown Ridge Road off Sunrise Park.

The call came into the 911 dispatch at 10:09 p.m., according to Jackson County Fire Marshal Michael Forbis.

The trailer, right outside Sylva town limits, was a total loss, he said.

The cause of the fire is labeled “undetermined” at this point.

“Basically, the fire department did the suppression and called for an investigation,” he said. “Jackson County Emergency Services Director Todd Dillard went out there that night and met with the Sheriff’s Office. It’s their jurisdiction. And then we met with the State Bureau of Investigation and the Sheriff’s Office investigator back out there Monday morning to look at the fire.”

The trailer was uninhabited but had electrical service.

“We can’t rule out an electrical cause or some kind of incendiary (arson) cause, so it was ruled undetermined because we could not narrow it down to one thing,” he said. “The origin was the rear bedroom on the eastern side of the trailer.”

Sylva Fire Department was the primary responder, with mutual aid from Balsam, Cullowhee and Savannah personnel.

There were no injuries.

The property is owned by Timothy Brown of Lincolnton, Georgia.
