Sylva Town Board meetings will return to the board room at Municipal Hall following a decline in COVID-19 cases.

The board on Nov. 9 voted unanimously to hold in-person meetings starting Dec. 1. The first meeting at Municipal Hall would be the 5 p.m. Dec. 2 Board of Adjustment meeting, when the board is expected to discuss a conditional use permit for a cemetery at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.

The next regular board meeting is set for 5:30 p.m. Dec. 9. The Dec. 23 meeting has been canceled.

The town canceled a budget and regular meeting set for March 25, 2020 due to COVID concerns. The meetings have been held virtually since, with a livestream available for the public.

In a followup interview, town Manager Paige Dowling said the town hopes to continue streaming the meetings over YouTube.

“We ordered a livestreaming system back in August and shipping delays have held it up,” she said. “Last week the final part the company was waiting for came in so hopefully we will get that installed in time.”
