Voters in 15 North Carolina counties, including Jackson, will go to the polls on July 26 in a mix of municipal general elections, runoff elections and second primaries.

The only Jackson contest to be decided on July 26 is the runoff between Abigail Clayton and Lisa Buchanan for Board of Education District 2.

Absentee ballots will be mailed to voters who request them beginning on or about June 24. For more information, see Vote By Mail on the N.C. State Board of Elections website,

“Just like all other elections, voters can fill out an absentee ballot request through the N.C. absentee portal, in our office, or we can mail an absentee ballot request,” said Lisa Lovedahl, director of the Jackson County Board of Elections. She provided the link for voters seeking more information.

The regular voter registration deadline for the July elections is July 1. For more information, see How to Register on the website.

All 13 polling places in the county will be open on July 26. The county Board of Elections’ Skyland Drive office will be the only early voting site, according to Lovedahl. Early voting will run from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 7-22. The only Saturday for early voting is 8 a.m. until 3 p.m. on July 23.
