Humphrey the pig, who escaped the Nicol Arms apartment he grew up in to have a brief jaunt in Sylva, stretches his legs at Farmshire Sanctuary in Waynesville.
“A former tenant had the pig as a pet and was unable to get it loaded into a truck when they were actually leaving, so it ended up just running loose there,” Sylva Police Chief Chris Hatton said of the June 8 incident.
Jake Scott, a former hog farm employee turned Sylva Public Works director, arrived on scene to corral Humphrey. Farmshire rescues abused and abandoned farm animals. Humphrey was recently adopted by a Waynesville couple who lost one of their pigs and is now known as Nicholi.
