Gov. Jim Hunt this week appointed Brad Letts, an assistant district attorney, to the position of District Court judge in the 30th Judicial District, which covers Cherokee, Clay, Graham, Haywood, Jackson, Macon and Swain counties.
"Brad Letts, through his work, has shown a willingness to become involved in ways that benefit our next generation of North Carolinians," said Hunt. "He is unquestionably an excellent new addition to the bench."
Letts, while serving as attorney general for the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians, was involved with the building and financing of the Boys and Girls Club of America Cherokee Youth Center, the Tribal Child Care building and the Cherokee Dialysis Center. He served as tribal attorney general from 1997 until 1999.
Letts, who lives in Cherokee, has had experience in all seven counties comprising the 30th District while serving as an assistant DA.
