Who needs a platform? To the Editor:A few weeks ago Paul O'Connor, the esteemed pundit from Raleigh, wrote a column saying he, himself, might run for political office if he had a platform. At first glance I thought Paul might have wandered into some of that Johnson County juice that put him to moving in high gear. Of course, the column was written as a pun. But O'Connor didn't know about us. Here in Jackson County one can run without a platform. As a matter of fact, one might run from the depths of a mud hole in this county and still win. I've said all that to say this: If these people who profess to run our county and our school board and the office of high sheriff do not seek you out, shake your hand and look you in the eyes, do not vote for them. If you have to lay down on flat on your back to look a candidate in the eyes, he is bad news. End of story. Allen Fisher Sylva
